UK property buyers should use websites to undertake their research prior to making a purchase, according to an industry expert.
Timothy Lambert, head of consulting at independent property investment consultancy Ducalian, said going online allows consumers to see house prices in certain areas, roads and boroughs.
In conducting extensive research, people may be able to protect themselves against falling into negative equity, he explained.
"Buyers must ensure they do their homework on properties and their surrounding area before committing to a deal," Mr Lambert commented.
Earlier this month, Property Hawk website editor Chris Horne advised would-be landlords that they need to do a lot of research before getting involved in the buy-to-let sector.
Knowing the rental demand of certain areas, as well as the going rate for actual rental prices, are two vital considerations if the project is going to be successful, he said.
